It is hard to predict number of questions that appear from this chapter. There are instances when no question from Active/Passive Voices appear in government jobs, Sarkari Naukri like NRA CET, SSC CGL, Bank PO etc and on the other hand there have instances when upto 5 questions have appeared from Active/Passive Voices chapter. This makes it important for candidats appearing for various government jobs to thoroughly study and practice this chapter.
Action of subject in relation to object can be expressed in two ways. These two ways to express an action are known as Voices Active Voice Passive Voice
Structure of Active Voice Subject + Verb + Object
Structure of Passive Voice Object + Verb + Subject
Examples Active Voice: I eat a banana. Passive Voice: A banana is eaten by me. Active Voice: I bought a kite. Passive Voice: A kite was bought by me. Active Voice: He bought a pencil. Passive Voice: A pencil was bought by him
Rules for Changing Active Voices to Passive Voices Rule I Structure of sentence gets reversed in Passive Voice so the subject will be changed with object. So the subject will shift to place of object and object will shift to place of subject. Active Voice: The men had constructed the bridge Passive Voice: The bridge had been constructed by the men.
Rule II Only third form of Verb or Past Particle Form will be used in passive voice for all sentences. No other form of verb is used in passive voice.
Rule III By will be used before subject in Passive Voice.
